About Our 'Ohana

Our History

Our humble beginning started in 1957 operating two small vessels for Pearl Harbor excursions. By 1981, the current management team joined the establishment and set out to diversify the company.

At the time, there were over 15 companies on Oahu offering basic dinner cruises with disposable tableware and all-you-can-drink cocktail concepts.

Our goal was to differentiate ourselves by delivering a high-quality “Experience of Aloha,” a unique concept at the time. By 1992, the company developed an all-new “Royal Sunset” dinner cruise concept and constructed the 1,500-passenger “Star of Honolulu,” Hawaii’s largest dinner cruise vessel, designed specifically for sailing in Hawaiian waters. We offer full A.D.A. compliant facilities (including elevators), designer interiors, and customizable banquet facilities for special events.

Paradise Kitchen

To assure our quality and value, Star of Honolulu Cruises & Events® opened Paradise Kitchen® in 1996. Today, Paradise Kitchen® produces over 500,000 meals annually from luau buffets to fine dining gourmet dinners, breakfast and lunch buffets, Hawaiian plate lunches, outside catering and more.

Royal Star Hawaii

Also in 1996, the company purchased outgoing Grayline Hawaii’s operating permits to expand its in-house transportation services, and Royal Star Hawaii Motorcoach Tours & Destination Services® was created. Until today, customers resonate with Royal Star’s unique on-time and vehicle guarantees, “Aloha on Wheels” drivers, wheelchair lifts, 100% seat belt, Drive-Cam, and all-new Michelin tire features. Royal Star also offers Hawaii’s #1 visitor attraction, the Arizona Memorial and USS Battleship Missouri tours, daily.
